Community Involvement

Elder law is personal. Every will, trust, Medicaid plan, or power of attorney we prepare represents a family we care about — and most of those families are our neighbors. Giving back through community events and volunteering keeps us grounded in the people we serve.

If you’d like to partner with Sunset Elder Law on a community event, invite us to speak at your nonprofit, senior center, or civic group, or learn more about elder law planning in Kentucky, we’d love to hear from you.

Sunset Elder Law: Giving Back to Owensboro and Daviess County
At Sunset Elder Law, we believe a strong community takes care of its seniors, its families, and its future. That's why giving back is more than a line on our website — it's part of how we practice law in Owensboro, Kentucky. From supporting local arts and senior programs to volunteering at holiday drives, our team shows up where we live and work.

Bourbon & Bags for Broadway — RiverPark Center
Sunset Elder Law is a proud Silent Auction Sponsor of Bourbon & Bags for Broadway, one of Owensboro's most anticipated fundraising events of the year. Hosted by the RiverPark Center, this signature evening pairs premium Kentucky bourbon tastings with designer handbags, live and silent auctions, and live entertainment — all to raise money for arts education. Proceeds help remove financial and transportation barriers so students across our region can experience Broadway performances live at the RiverPark Center. In 2024, the event raised roughly $84,000 and gave nearly 300 students — many from underserved communities — the chance to see professional theater, some for the very first time. Supporting Bourbon & Bags is our way of investing in the next generation of Owensboro's storytellers, dreamers, and leaders.

Theatre Workshop of Owensboro
Since 1955, Theatre Workshop of Owensboro (TWO) has been the heart of community theatre in our region — "the longest running show in town." Housed in the historic Trinity Centre and the Empress Theatre in downtown Owensboro, TWO produces mainstage plays, youth productions, summer musicals, and educational workshops that create "a role for everyone." Sunset Elder Law supports Theatre Workshop of Owensboro because live theatre brings generations together. Grandparents, parents, and children sitting shoulder-to-shoulder in a darkened theatre is exactly the kind of connection we work to protect in our estate planning practice. Local arts strengthen local families — and that's a mission worth backing.

Be Santa to a Senior
Loneliness during the holidays is one of the quiet challenges many older adults face. Be a Santa to a Senior, founded by Home Instead, delivers holiday gifts, warm blankets, toiletries, gift cards, and personal notes to isolated seniors in our community each December. Our team donates gifts and volunteers time each holiday season to make sure Owensboro seniors know they are seen, valued, and remembered. As an elder law firm, we work with older Kentuckians every day — helping with Medicaid planning, powers of attorney, wills, and long-term care. Being a Santa to a Senior is a natural extension of that work: honoring the people who spent their lives caring for others.

Silver Bells
Silver Bells is a beloved local holiday tradition that raises support for older adults in Owensboro and Daviess County. Sunset Elder Law is proud to participate — because celebrating our seniors shouldn't be limited to one day a year. Whether it's through sponsorships, gift-giving, or showing up in person, we help make the season brighter for the neighbors who built this community.

Senior Community Center of Owensboro-Daviess County
The Senior Community Center of Owensboro-Daviess County is a hub for adults 60 and older, offering meals, fitness classes, adult education, social activities, and connection five days a week. With a brand-new facility opening at 3001 West 2nd Street, the Center continues to grow its impact on senior wellness across our region. Sunset Elder Law supports the Senior Community Center because we see firsthand how vital these programs are. Staying active, engaged, and connected protects both mind and body — and it makes the legal and financial planning we do together that much more meaningful. Our team volunteers, presents free educational talks on elder law topics, and helps promote the Center's mission whenever we can.
