Veterans Benefits & VA Aid
Many veterans have earned benefits they never claim — often because the paperwork is confusing. Kurtis is a VA-accredited attorney, which means he’s approved by the VA to prepare and file these claims for you. Let’s go get what you’ve earned.
Common Questions
Aid and Attendance is "additional", tax-free money added to a veteran's monthly VA pension. It's for wartime veterans and surviving spouses who need help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, or getting around. The money can go toward care at home, in assisted living, or in a nursing home.
Four things need to line up: at least 90 days of active service with one day during a wartime period; a discharge that isn't dishonorable; a real need for daily help; and income and savings under the VA's limit. In 2026, that savings limit is $163,699 — and your home and car don't count.
As of 2026, the most Aid and Attendance pays each month is about:
- $2,424* for a single veteran
- $2,874* for a married veteran
- $1,558* for a surviving spouse.
Your exact amount depends on your income and your care costs. These amounts come directly from the VA pension rate tables for 12/1/2025-11/30/2026 (MAPR amounts including Aid and Attendance)
Usually your discharge papers (the DD-214), a doctor's statement, proof of your care costs, and recent financial records. Surviving spouses also need marriage and death certificates. We understand that there is a lot of paperwork, but don’t worry, Sunset Elder Law is here to help.
